What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an art, science, and philosophy centered on the body’s natural healing power. We believe that the power that made the body heals the body. But, with increased or prolonged stress the bodies healing power can be hindered. As chiropractors we look for areas where joint function is lost and areas where the nervous system is under stress. We then apply a chiropractic adjustment to these areas; we help restore function and allow the body to heal.

What problems do people see a chiropractor for?

People consult us for back problems, neck problems, stress related problems, work injuries and general health problems. And in many cases we provide the only solution to their problem. When a person is in pain their whole life can be affected. They lose sleep, they become agitated more easily, and are overall miserable to themselves and the ones they love. By removing that pain you can greatly improve their quality of life.

What do chiropractors do?

Chiropractors specialize in the spine and nervous system and are trained to detect areas where function is lost or limited. The brain and nervous system control every cell, tissue and organ in our body. In order to have optimal function our brain must be able to communicate with every part of our body in a clear and precise manner. We believe everyone should have their spine and nervous system checked because we live in a society where we are accustomed to only taking care of our health when a problem develops. The “if it ain’t broke do not fix it” mentality. Or if there are no symptoms there is no problem. But the most common killers today do not show symptoms until it is too late. By correcting the spine and nervous system through chiropractic adjustments our goal is to allow a person’s body to heal and thrive the way it is designed to. We want everyone to live to their full potential.

What causes stress on the spine?

There are three main types of stress that we encounter on a daily basis including physical stress, chemical stress, and emotional stress. Physical stressors includes poor posture, past car accidents, past injuries, repetitive motions at work, and lack of movement and exercise. Chemical stressors are so common today and are often overlooked. These include pesticides in our food, toxins in cleaning products and personal care products, air and water pollution, smoking, and fast food. Emotional stress includes finances, job pressures, relationship strain, and lack of purpose and personal drive. Everyone’s nervous system has a certain amount of stress it can handle before it becomes overwhelmed.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is a specific force applied to areas of the spine with the intention of removing interference from the nervous system. There are multiple techniques used to apply an adjustment to the joints. At our practice we make sure we find the best and most effective technique to provide you with the highest quality of care.

Why do chiropractors see infants and children?

Many infants can have stress put on their spine during the birth process. As they are learning to crawl and walk there are many stumbles and falls that put physical stress on their spine. Children are constantly falling, and bumping into other children. All these things have an impact on the development of their spine and nervous system. We see infants and kids because we want them to be as healthy as possible in their younger days and for the rest of their life. When an infant is not sleeping well, spitting up constantly, or crying in excess this is not normal. When a child is constantly sick, on antibiotics every other month, and allergic to everything this is not normal. This is their body trying to communicate with you that there is a problem. We want every child to have the best potential for health and we know that chiropractic can help them achieve it.

Is adjusting children safe?

Yes, it is very safe. The amount of force and technique used to give an adjustment to a child is very different than when you adjust an adult. With infants and children the force is about equivalent to the amount of pressure you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato.

Once you go to a chiropractor do you have to go forever?

The answer is no. How you choose to benefit from chiropractic is totally up to you. But let me ask you this:

  • Can you brush your teeth for 1 month and have the results last a lifetime?
  • Can you exercise for 4 months and be in shape for the rest of your life?
  • Can you eat healthy one week and have it last for the year?

The answer to all these questions is no. Just like these healthy habits if you choose to discontinue your chiropractic care your health can suffer. Many people choose to incorporate regular chiropractic care into their healthy lifestyle because they want their spine and nervous system to function optimally for the rest of their life.
